2008 AREA CONFERENCE
AREA Conference 2008
Spawning Ideas, Innovation and Action Corpus Christi, Texas October 17th - 21st
Come join us for the 2008 AREA conference in beautiful Corpus Christi, Texas. This year's conference is guaranteed to provide something for everyone. Main themes for this year will feature the following and much much more. Marketing Education Programs for Fun and Profit This workshop will provide examples of how aquatic educators are using marketing techniques to increase awareness of their programs and achieve greater diversity among participants. The focus will be primarily on attracting new participants to science-based education programs and those programs supporting agency angler recruitment and retention goals. Integrating Stewardship into Aquatic Education Programs Resource stewardship is achieved through a process of acquiring environmental knowledge and active involvement in the outdoors over time to build concern for the environment and a desire to change individual and community practices that lead to reduced environmental quality. Participants will learn how to build appropriate environmental information and activities into an array of programs that support the development of environmental concern and a stewardship ethic among participants. Notifying the Public Writing news releases may seem like a daunting task for many educators, but they are an essential tool for creating public awareness of your programs. Communications specialists will provide instruction on how to prepare news releases for a variety of media outlets, tactics for getting them published or on the airwaves, and tips for determining their effectiveness. Fly Fishing Education: Building Skills, Participation and Committed Anglers Fly fishing is one of the fastest growing segments of fishing. This workshop focuses on the pedagogy of teaching fly fishing skills, facilitating and extending participation beyond beginner classes, and developing partnerships that both support your programs and build social networks for life-long fishing. |
